A good development that has been mentioned/advertised in the newspapers is that the board is taking applications for openings on 6 commission/authorities.  I hope folks have noticed and applied.  The deadline had been extended until the end of the day on Monday February 4.  I am sending the link.  Please help our community by getting involved – we need folks on these boards with some expertise in the fields and the willingness to make decisions based on facts and information.

Again – please go to the site for all the information but here is a short list of the commissions/authorities:

-Galax-Carroll Regional Library Board

-Carroll County Recreation Commission

-Carroll County Planning Commission

-The Wired Road Authority

-Transportation Rural Technical Committee

-Carroll County Tourism Advisory Committee

There was a slight change in the schedule that came out of the organizational meeting.  The new BOS voted to have the PSA meeting at 2pm instead of the 2:30 time frame.  Also a new County Attorney is in place, James E. Cornwell, Jr. from Sands Anderson Marks & Miller.  The county has used this firm before.  There are differing opinions on the past performance of this firm. 

School Board – they have such a good website and calendar – just go to http://www.ccpsd.k12.va.us/.   No new members here – the School Board was re elected.

As usual, unless noted the meetings will be in the BOS meeting room on the 2nd Floor of the Carroll County Government Center.

IDA (Industrial Development Authority) Monday February 4 at 4pm 

This meeting is usually held in the small conference room next to the County Administrator’s office but sometimes is held in the BOS meeting room.

PSA (Public Service Authority) Monday February 11 at 2pm

The BOS appointed themselves as PSA members.  There are differing opinions on this move also.

BOS (Board of Supervisors) Meeting Monday February 11 at 4pm 

From what I understand this will be the regularly scheduled meeting time – the second Monday of the month with the PSA meeting preceding the BOS meeting. 

PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING Thursday February 21 at 6pm or 7pm?

Not sure if there will be a meeting to work on the subdivision ordinance this month.  The regular PC meeting is at 7pm but when they work on a special project ie the Subdivision Ordinance, Comprehensive Plan, E&S Plan (all required by the State of VA)  they start the meeting at 6pm.  You can call the County Administrators Office to find out 276-730-3001 or 276-730-3004 .  It is possible they will decide during the Feb BOS meeting.

Also the PC members whose terms are up for reappointment will be sitting on the PC until the new members are appointed – I do not have them listed but they have been in past e-mails.  They are Emmett Jones and Oscar Hill.  Again the applications for these positions will be received until the end of the day on Monday, February 4.
